The record-breaking World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Championship Event ended with Singapore national Jereld Sam emerging victorious from a record-setting field of 1,666 entries.
The final day of the championship hosted at CTP Asia Poker Arena, Taipei saw players bringing in some electrifying energy to the felts. The championship event had seven trophies on offer across side events with the highlight being the Championship Event.
Over 10 hours of intense play concluded in Sam’s nailing the title spot. This was the Singapore player’s career-best cash worth TWD 8,065,000 (approximately $250,700). Sam will take home a shiny new WPT Prime Championship trophy.

The winner expressed his thoughts on his latest victory and said, "This marks my first six-figure win, and it's the Main Event, which holds great prestige—a WPT Prime in a country I adore, Taiwan. I've visited here several times, and it feels surreal."
Same further added, “It was my tournament to win; I was the short stack with nothing to lose, so I was just aiming for the win."
The cherry on the cake for Sam was the $10,400 seat for the WPT World Championship to be held in December 2024. About the $10,400 ticket, Same said, "I'm definitely looking forward to heading to Vegas. I'm going to take a break first to let everything settle down after the festival."
WPT Prime Taiwan Championship Event
On the last day of the highly-anticipated 2024 WPT Prime Taiwan Championship Event, only 13 runners returned to the felts with Jereld Sam leading the pack. After three and a half hours of nail-biting play, the final table was set with Japanese player Yuya Arito leading and Sam following in second.
The first casualty on the final table was New Zealand's Paul Hong, who threw his last 12 big blinds holding pocket nines. Sadly for Hong, he ran into Arito's Pocket Rockets.
Taiwan’s Wei Chun Cheng met with the same fate as Hong holding Ladies. Arito picked up pocket queens to eliminate Tomoyuki Yoshimiya, who finished seventh.
Sam quickly bumped up his stack and also knocked out Tsang and Jun Li, who claimed the third and fourth positions, respectively. Heads-up play saw Oguri dominate, with Sam losing a considerable chunk of his stack after the first hand, which left him with a 5:1 chip deficit.
However, Sam made an impressive comeback and kept going till the final hand which saw the Singaporean’s KcJc beat Oguri's QcJd on a board of 2c3d3s4d5s.
